This learning fellowship expects you to commit around 4-5 hours per week. It is on your schedule with the exception of the live workshops - these are interactive and therefore not available on demand.

What we’ll cover

Each week there will be self-paced learning and activities, followed by a workshop to work through concepts and apply methods with your peers.

Week 1
What is product-market fit in EdTech?

We set the scene by exploring what product-market fit is and the unique challenges and opportunities in EdTech.
Get clear about your goals, define your product and market and meet your peers.

Week 2
Vision

  • Understand the role of vision and find your unique perspective

  • Define and communicate a tangible product vision

  • Formulate your product (market-fit) strategy

Week 3
Discover

  • Find the product for your users (not users for your product)

  • Conduct continuous product discovery and user research

  • Validate your riskiest assumptions

Consolidation and catch up

Measure

  • Understand the complexity of measuring in edtech

  • Measure the metrics that matter at each stage

  • Spot the signs of Product-Market Fit

Grow

  • Focus on retention and sustainable growth

  • Find product-channel fit

  • Harness emotion and behaviour

Week 7
Sell

  • Understand when to monetise and your value narrative

  • Match your model to your channels, users and motivation

  • Find the right pricing model

    Methods: Business model canvas, Channel-model fit, Value-metric pricing, Van Westerdorp pricing model

We’ll finish by bringing it all together with a mini capstone: a 5-minute lightening reflection from each participant.

Your guide

Matt Walton

Matt is an edtech coach and advisor and works with edtech startups, scale ups and universities.

He was founding Chief Product Officer at FutureLearn, one of Europe’s biggest edtech platforms partnering with hundreds of universities, growing it to 14m learners and securing over £50m in investment.

He recently was fractional CPO at LIS, a new start up university and learned his product craft at the BBC.
